G Is for Gratitude
Gratitude is a conscious knowing, acceptance, appreciation and sharing — a thankfulness that flows from the wellspring of the universe, pouring to us, into us, expressing as us.

G Is for Gratitude
We have been speaking about gratitude for the past few days — weaving our way through attitude, being, consciousness, deliberate living, enough, and forgiveness. And now we arrive at the heart of it all. The word itself. The very reason we are here.
So let us pause, and ask the question again with fresh eyes: what is gratitude?
A Conscious Knowing
Gratitude is not a reflex. It is not the polite "thank you" we offer out of habit, though that too has its place. At its deepest, gratitude is a conscious knowing — an awareness that arrives when we stop moving long enough to truly see what surrounds us.
It is acceptance. Not the resigned kind that says this is all there is, but the open-hearted kind that says this is real, this is here, and I receive it fully.
It is appreciation — the act of recognising value, of holding something up to the light and seeing it clearly for what it is.
And it is sharing. Because gratitude that stays locked inside eventually dims. It is meant to move, to flow outward, to touch others and multiply.
Respect for What Has Been Given
Gratitude is also respect. Respect for what has been given to us — the breath in our lungs, the ground beneath our feet, the minds that can wonder and the hearts that can feel. Respect for what is available to us to use, and to pass on.
We did not arrive here empty-handed. We arrived with gifts we are still discovering.
The Wellspring of the Universe
There is an image that feels true: gratitude as a wellspring. Not a tap you turn on and off, not a resource that runs dry — but a spring that rises from somewhere deep and inexhaustible, flowing to us, into us, expressing as us.
When we are grateful, we are not simply acknowledging what we have received. We are becoming a channel for something larger. We are allowing the abundance of life to move through us and out into the world.
Gratitude is an expansion. It widens our appreciation for all life — not just our own circumstances, but the whole magnificent, interconnected web of existence.
No Boundaries, No Lack
Here is what makes gratitude truly extraordinary: it holds no boundaries.
It does not require perfect conditions. It does not wait for everything to be resolved, for the difficult season to pass, for the wound to fully heal. Gratitude can exist alongside grief, alongside uncertainty, alongside the unfinished and the imperfect.
Because gratitude is also the awareness that there is no lack in all life. Each and every one of us has access to the wellspring. The universe does not ration its gifts by worthiness or circumstance. The spring flows for all.
The Gift of Each Morning
Each and every day, as the sun rises and we take our first breath, we rise with the gift of life. That alone — that single, unremarkable, extraordinary fact — is enough to anchor a practice of gratitude.
As the day unfolds, we open ourselves to the experiences it brings. We tap into the resources of life — the creativity, the connection, the quiet moments and the full ones — and we make manifest the things we desire.
We are not passive recipients. We are active participants in the great unfolding.
Now isn't that just magnificent?
Gratitude is not a destination. It is the way we travel. Come back tomorrow as we continue our journey through the alphabet of a grateful life.
