Z is for Zero

Gratitude A–Z

Z is for Zero

Zero – back to nothing. No. Not claiming that. Zero is the perfect circle. Complete. Whole. And after 25 days of this journey, that zero of yours has some very significant numbers in front of it.

Here I go again — flipping the narrative.

Zero. Back to nothing.

No. I am not claiming that.

Zero Is Not Nothing

When I reflect on how I was taught to view zero, it represented nothing. Considered neutral. A placeholder. The absence of value.

But that neutral zero has significant power.

When placed after a positive number, zero no longer remains neutral. It multiplies. It amplifies. It transforms a 1 into a 10, a 10 into a 100. Zero, in the right position, changes everything.

And because I am no mathematician, I will move away from the math analogy right there — and invite you to see zero in an entirely different way.

The Perfect Circle

I want you to see zero as the perfect circle.

When reference is made to coming "full circle," it speaks to completeness. Wholeness. The sense that a journey — however long, however winding — has arrived somewhere meaningful. This is how I choose to see Z in this context.

Many times in our lives, we have come full circle. We start at one point, and life takes us on a journey — through seasons, through storms, through stretches of beauty we did not expect — and sometimes, it brings us right back to where we started.

One of the most amazing things we do not often recognise is how much richer our lives have become when we return to the start. We look the same on the outside, perhaps. We are standing in a familiar place. But we are not the same person who left. The circle looks identical — but everything inside it has grown.

Half Empty or Half Full?

We spoke earlier in this series about perspective. About whether you see the glass as half empty or half full.

So let me ask you now, at the close of these 25 days: when your full circle presents itself — when life brings you back to a beginning — are you arriving half empty or half full?

I would like to make a wager on you.

After the last 25 days — after sitting with attitude, being, consciousness, deliberateness, enough, forgiveness, gratitude, heart healing, identity, joy, kindness, love, mindfulness, the power of no, openness, passion, quietness, rest, service, thankfulness, uniqueness, value, wellbeing, crossroads, and you — I am pretty sure it is the latter.

That zero of yours has some very significant numbers in front of it. I am certain of that.

Zero as a Reset Point

So the next time zero appears in any aspect of your life — a fresh start, an ending, a moment that feels like the ground has shifted — consider it a reset point.

Not a failure. Not a loss. A reset.

Another opportunity to do even greater things, because every experience leading up to that moment has been enriching you in ways you may not yet fully see. The stumbles. The detours. The days that did not go as planned. All of it has been adding value to that circle of yours.

Choose the half-full mindset — and watch how it begins to overflow in ways you did not anticipate. Into your relationships. Into your work. Into the quiet moments of your ordinary days.

And then — choose to share that overflow with others. Let there be ripple effects. A kind word. A moment of patience. A piece of what you have learned passed gently to someone who needs it. Gratitude, when it overflows, does not stay contained. It moves.

If the Zero Feels Like Rock Bottom

And if there are days — because there will be days — when that zero feels less like a perfect circle and more like rock bottom, when the reset feels more like a collapse than a beginning:

Come back here.

Revisit the pages of Gratitude 101 and start again from A.

It is not a race to a finish line. There is no trophy waiting at Z, no certificate for completing the alphabet in order, no prize for never needing to return to the beginning. This was never about speed or performance or getting it right the first time.

It is a steady, slow, and calculated sojourn — a journey taken one day at a time — toward living a life centred in gratitude. Day by day. Letter by letter. Circle by circle.

You are always welcome to begin again.

A to Z — Full Circle

Twenty-six letters. Twenty-six doorways. One unbroken circle.

From A — the attitude you choose when you open your eyes in the morning — all the way to Z — the zero that is not an ending but a return, a reset, a richer beginning.

You have carried something through every one of these letters. Something has shifted, even if quietly. Even if you cannot name it yet. Trust that.

The circle is complete. And it is full.

Reflect: Z is for Zero

  • Where in your life have you recently come full circle? What do you know now that you did not know when you started that particular journey?

  • When zero appears as a reset in your life, what is your instinct — to see it as loss, or as possibility? What would it take to choose possibility more often?

  • Which letter from A to Z will you return to first? Not because you failed it — but because you are ready to go deeper with it now.

  • What is one thing you will carry forward from this series — one shift in how you see yourself, your life, or the world around you?

A to Z. Full circle. Thank you for making this journey with us. We would love to hear what this series has meant to you — write to us at [email protected]. And whenever you need to begin again, we will be right here at A.
