In this fast-paced environment, rest is almost presented like a luxury. It is a vacation we take after we have worked many months, weeks, and years and then are able to budget and pay for that trip away. We travel to exotic places many miles from our homes. We go sightseeing, adventure hunting, eating and drinking as much as we can — then return to our routines more tired than before the so-called vacation. We then slave away on the grind until we can afford the next break.

But rest is more than a paid vacation.

Rest is the regular intervals we take for self-care. No travel necessarily needed. Just a timeout from the daily routine. To sleep in. To get a mani and pedicure. To meet a friend for lunch. To take a walk in the park. To sit by the river and watch the ripples in the water. To connect with the children in our lives. Just a moment or two to simply be — no timelines, no deliverables, no deadlines.

When was the last time you had time for real rest?

A moment of pause when you truly felt rejuvenated in mind, body, and soul. A moment when you felt so at ease that you could feel the flow in your life. The flow in your energy level. The flow in your awareness. The flow in your enthusiasm. The flow in your clarity.

Taking time for the kind of rest we have just interrogated could be one of the best gifts you ever give yourself.

What does real rest look like for you? I would love to hear — share your thoughts or reach out at [email protected].
